Items for Checkout

Find a wide array of fiction and non-fiction titles for all ages in our catalog.

  • Cardholders can check out up to 50 books at a time.
  • The check out period is three weeks.
  • An item can be renewed up to two times if the item has no holds. Auto-renewal will occur if there are no holds on the item. The due date will automatically be extended for another three weeks.

Mobile Hotspots

Reserve a mobile hotspot.

  • A statement of need must be signed at check out as a requirement of the FCC's Emergency Connectivity Fund.
  • Patrons must be 18 or older to check out a hotspot.
  • Hotspot holds must be checked out by the patron who placed the hold. Patrons may not pick up hotspots for other patrons. The patron's library card must be in good standing without any fines or fees.
  • Patron must present their library card or barcode on the Leon County Public Library mobile app and a photo ID at check out.
  • The check out period is three weeks. No renewals.
  • Only one mobile hotspot can be checked out at a time by a library card holder.
  • Mobile hotspots can be picked up from all library locations.

Chromebooks

Reserve a Chromebook.

  • A statement of need must be signed at check out as a requirement of the FCC's Emergency Connectivity Fund.
  • Patrons must be 18 or older to check out a Chromebook.
  • Chromebook holds must be checked out by the patron who placed the hold. Patrons may not pick up Chromebooks for other patrons. The patron's library card must be in good standing without any fines or fees.

Chromebook/Hotspot Bundles

Reserve a Chromebook/hotspot bundle.

  • A statement of need must be signed at check out as a requirement of the FCC's Emergency Connectivity Fund.
  • Patrons must be 18 or older to check out a bundle.
  • Bundle holds must be checked out by the patron who placed the hold. Patrons may not pick up bundles for other patrons. The patron's library card must be in good standing without any fines or fees.
  • Patron must present their library card or barcode on the Leon County Public Library mobile app and a photo ID at check out.
  • The check out period is six weeks. No renewals.
  • Bundles can be picked up from all library locations.

Laptops

  • Laptops are available to check out for in-library use at all library locations.
  • Patrons must be 18 or older to check out a laptop.
  • Patron must present their library card or barcode on the Leon County Public Library mobile app and a photo ID at check out.
  • Laptops have a loan period of three hours.

Audio CDs (Music and Audiobooks)

  • Cardholders can check out up to six music CDs and six audiobooks at a time.
  • The check out period is three weeks.
  • An item can be renewed up to two times if the item has no holds. Auto-renewal will occur if there are no holds on the item. The due date will automatically be extended for another three weeks.

DVDs

  • Cardholders can check out up to six DVDs at a time.
  • The check out period is one week.
  • An item can be renewed up to two times if the item has no holds. Auto-renewal will occur if there are no holds on the item. The due date will automatically be extended for another week.

Electronic Books, Audiobooks, and Magazines

Electronic Magazines

  • Read digital magazines from anywhere with Flipster.

Streaming Media

  • Watch more than 30,000 streaming films and television shows with Kanopy and Hoopla.

Reserve a Sensory Kit.

More than just books, Sensory Kits provide a layered approach to emotional and physical learning. Each kit contains two books as well as toys, games, and tools focused around a theme. These kits can be picked up at any Leon County Public Library location.

Select a kit with one of the following themes: 

Reserve a tablet.

  • A statement of need must be signed at check out as a requirement of the FCC's Emergency Connectivity Fund.
  • Patrons must be 18 or older to check out a tablet.
  • Tablet holds must be checked out by the patron who placed the hold. Patrons may not pick up tablets for other patrons. The patron's library card must be in good standing without any fines or fees.
  • The check out period is six weeks. No renewals.
  • Only one tablet can be checked out at a time by a library card holder.
  • Tablets can be picked up from all library locations.
  • Patron must present a library card or barcode on the Leon County Library mobile app and a photo ID at checkout.
  • Please return tablets to the service desk.

Reserve a telescope.

  • The check out period is two weeks. No renewals. 
  • The patron's library card must be in good standing without any fines or fees.
  • Only one telescope can be checked out at a time by a library card holder.
  • Telescopes can be picked up from all library locations.
  • Telescopes must be returned to the service desk.
  • The replacement fee is $250. Replacement parts fees vary per part.
  • A travel bag is provided.
  • Telescopes are not available during solar eclipses due to the risk of potential eye or equipment damage.

About the Telescope

AWB 130 Newtonian by Astronomers Without Borders features a 130mm paraboloidal f/5 mirror. With a truss tube that collapses to 14.5 inches in seconds and a total weight of just 14 pounds, performance and convenience are combined in one portable package. Never use this telescope to look directly at the sun, as this may cause permanent eye damage.

Traveling Book Club Kits are an easy way to sustain a book club or start one of your own.

  • Each kit contains 10 copies of the book.
  • When choosing a title, check the Traveling Book Club Kit's availability. Each title has only one kit.
  • Please make your Traveling Book Club Kit reservation at least one week in advance to ensure its availability at your designated location.
  • Kits may be reserved up to a year in advance.
  • The kit must be checked out using the library card of the person picking up the bag. That patron is responsible for the bag and its contents.
  • The loan period is six weeks.
  • A patron may have two kits checked out at one time.
  • Kits may be renewed once if no other group has reserved it. Please call 850-606-2665 to renew the kit.

Library of Things

The Library of Things is a collection of items other than books that can be borrowed from the library at no charge. Items require a photo ID in addition to your library card, and may require a User Agreement and Liability Waiver.
