Simulator Lab

Fast-track your construction career with the CAT Excavator simulator. Receive hands-on training and master heavy equipment operation in a safe, risk-free environment.

The Simulator Lab is located on the second floor of the Leon County Main Library, located at 200 West Park Avenue.

What Can You Do in the Simulator Lab?

Master critical operations of the CAT Excavator simulator, including:

  • Trenching and Digging — Practice precision earth moving and material handling.
  • Loading and Hauling — Learn efficient cycle times and proper truck-loading techniques.
  • Site Management — Navigate complex scenarios, grade control, and safety protocols.
  • Fault Recognition — Train for quick, safe responses to unexpected equipment malfunctions.

Booking Requirements

Simulator Lab reservations may be booked after orientation is complete. Register for CAT Excavator simulator orientation.

  • During orientation, users will complete the following:
  • Create login information for SimScholar, the CAT Excavator simulator curriculum.
  • Learn how to login to SimScholar and the simulator.
  • Sign a liability waiver.
  • Review guidelines for using the Simulator Lab.
  • Learn how to reserve the Simulator Lab with staff for their first booking.

The reservation link for booking the Simulator Lab will be emailed to the user upon completion of orientation.

The following booking requirements apply:

  • A library card is required to reserve and use the Simulator Lab.
  • Users must show their library card and a photo ID during check in.
  • Users must be 18 years or older to reserve the Simulator Lab.
  • Reservations and cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance.
  • A liability waiver must be on file (completed during orientation).
  • Users can reserve the Simulator Lab for up to two hours per day in one-hour increments.
  • Users can have a maximum of four reservations at one time.

Simulator Lab Guidelines

  • Enrolled users may have one adult accompany them in the room, but only the enrolled user may operate the simulator.
  • Food is prohibited in the Simulator Lab.
  • Water with a secure lid is allowed but must be kept away from all equipment.
  • Users assume full responsibility and assure that no damage or loss will occur to the meeting space, furnishings, or equipment.

The Simulator Lab is designed for self-paced learning. While library staff will handle registration, orientation, and troubleshooting access to the curriculum, they are not certified CAT trainers and will not provide detailed equipment instruction.
