Get ready for an unforgettable adventure during our 8th annual CosmicCon featuring this year's theme, Sirens, Sailors, and Sea Monsters.

When: Saturday, August 22, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Where: Leon County Main Library, 200 West Park Avenue
Audience: All ages

Set sail on a fantastical voyage through the world of pirates, mermaids, sea monsters and maritime legends. This year's CosmicCon celebrates ocean lore, favorite fandoms, and the spirit of adventure with a day of hands-on activities, demonstrations, cosplay, trivia, scavenger hunts, and more.

Schedule of Events

Friendship Bracelets

When: 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Audience: All ages

Test your knot-tying skills by weaving together colorful threads to create a bracelet for yourself, a family member, or a friend.

Shell Painting

When: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Audience: All ages

Take a moment to relax and paint colorful designs on seashells to create a nautical keepsake.

Library Lecture Series: “King of the Monsters: How Godzilla Conquered the World”

When: 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Audience: All ages

Join Dr. Laura Lee of Florida State University's College of Motion Picture Arts for a special Library Lecture Series presentation in conjunction with CosmicCon. Explore the enduring legacy of Godzilla and discover how the King of Monsters became one of the most influential figures in global popular culture.

Trivia: The Siren's Challenge

When: 12 to 1 p.m.
Audience: All ages

Test your knowledge of pirates, mythology, and popular fandoms in this lightning-round trivia challenge.

Create a Kraken

When: 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Audience: All ages

Bend pipe cleaners into a miniature kraken pen topper during this beginner-friendly craft.

Cosplay Competition

When: 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Audience: All ages

Suit up in your favorite fandom cosplay and connect with fellow fans during our cosplay competition for a chance to win gift card prizes.

Registration is required. Online registration opens July 1 and closes August 21 at 11:55 p.m.

Costume Parade

When: 2:15 p.m.
Audience: All ages

Show off your cosplay during an all-ages costume parade around the library. Winners will be announced following the parade.

Coloring Corners

Relax and color nautical-themed pages inspired by this year's CosmicCon theme.

Kids Scavenger Hunt

When: 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Audience: Kids

Explore the library and search for clues during a self-directed nautical-themed scavenger hunt.

Race to Blackbeard's Treasure

When: 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Audience: Teens and adults

Rival pirates are closing in on Blackbeard's legendary treasure. Solve puzzles and riddles to unlock the code to Blackbeard's cryptex.

Community Tables

When: 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Audience: All ages

Visit community exhibitors and learn about local organizations, hobbies, and fandom interests.

Demonstrators and Exhibitors

When: 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Audience: All ages

Meet community partners and enjoy hands-on demonstrations throughout the day, including robotics, historical martial arts, and other interactive activities.

Food Trucks

When: 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., or while supplies last
Audience: All ages

Take a break from your adventures and grab a bite from local food vendors, including Street Chefs and The Pudding Junkie.

Beanstack Challenge

When: August 1-31
Audience: All ages

Dive into a world of sirens, sailors, and sea monsters by logging reading and activities in Beanstack throughout August. Complete a BINGO card to earn a sticker prize.
