Audio CDs

  • Check out up to 6 music CDs and 6 audiobooks per library cardholder
  • Checkout period is 21 days
  • Can be renewed up to 2 times if item has no holds. Auto-renewal will occur if there are no holds on the item. The due date will automatically be extended for another 3 weeks. 

Books

Book Nook Bundles

The Book Nook Bundles contain a storybook, storybook guide, and relevant and engaging activities that support language and literacy development for children between birth to 8 years old. The Book Nook Bundles were created in partnership with the Florida Center for Reading Research.

  • Chromebooks holds must be checked out by patron who placed hold. Patrons may not pick up Chromebooks for other patrons.
  • Checkout period is 6 weeks with no renewals.
  • Patron must be 16 or older to checkout a laptop.
  • Patron must present library card or barcode on the Leon County Library Mobile app and a photo ID at checkout.
  • Library Card must be in good standing, free from any fines or fees

DVDs

  • Checkout period is 1 (one) week. 
  • Can be renewed up to 2 times if item has no holds. Auto-renewal will occur if there are no holds on the item. The due date will automatically be extended for another week. 

InterLibrary Loan

Submit requests for interlibrary loans (ILL) and library purchases through ILLiad.

First time users will need to set up an account.

  • A maximum of 5 (five) active requests at a time per library cardholder.
  • Books borrowed on interlibrary loan are due on the date indicated by the lending library.

Laptops

Laptops are available for in-house checkout at every library location.

Patron must be 16 or older to checkout a laptop.

Patron must present library card or barcode on the Leon County Library Mobile app and a photo ID at checkout.

Laptops have a loan period of 3 hours.

Launchpad Tablets

Launchpads are children's tablets containing primarily educational games: Learning the alphabet and Kindergarten-ready games. Games and exercises will introduce early learning concepts from letters to numbers and colors.

Place a Hold

  • Checkout period is 21 days.
  • 3 Launchpads per library cardholder.
  • Launchpads are geared towards 3-5 year olds, 5-7 year olds and 8-10 year olds respectively.
  • No internet connection; only pre-loaded games.
  • A charging cord with USB and AC adapters will be provided.
  • Can be renewed up to 2 times if item has no holds.
  • Replacement fee varies​.

Mobile Hotspots

Place a Hold for the next available item.

  • A statement of need must be signed at checkout as a requirement of the FCC's Emergency Connectivity Fund.
  • Patron must be 16 or older to checkout a hotspot.
  • Hotspot holds must be checked out by patron who placed hold. Patrons may not pick up hotspots for other patrons.
  • Checkout period is 3 weeks. No renewals.
  • Library Card must be in good standing.
  • 1 (one) mobile hotspot per library cardholder.
  • Can be picked up from all library locations.
  • Replacement fee is $200. Replacement parts fee varies per part.

Read-Along Talking Books

Audio and print come together to enhance children's word recognition and reading skills! 

Children can read along while listening to the story read aloud on a CD or a VOX book or Wonderbook with built-in audio (headphones or earbuds can be used).

Seed Library

The Seed Library is available every spring and fall. The Seed Library is launched each season with a special gardening and cooking program from UF/IAS Leon Extension.

During our Spring and Fall Seed Libraries, visit any library branch location and check out up to three seed packets each month. No need to return them, they are yours to keep.

Sensory Kits

More than just books, Sensory Kits provide a layered approach to emotional and physical learning. Each kit contains two books as well as toys, games, and tools focused around a theme. These kits can be placed on hold HERE and picked up at any Leon County Public Library location.

Traveling Book Club

The Traveling Book Club is an easy way to sustain a book club or start one of your own.

HOW IT WORKS

  • Requests for bags may be made by phone, in person, or online.
  • Each Book Club bag contains 10 copies of the book.
  • When choosing a title, check the Traveling Book Club Kit's availability. Each title has only one kit.
  • Please make your Traveling Book Club Reservation at least one week in advance to ensure its availability at your designated location.
  • Bags may be reserved up to a year in advance.
  • The bag is checked out on the library card of the person picking up the bag. That patron is responsible for the bag and its contents. The loan period is 6 weeks.
  • A patron may have 2 bags at one time.
  • Bags may be renewed once if no other group has reserved it. Please call (850) 606-2665 to renew.


Library of Things

The Library of Things is a collection of items other than books that can be borrowed from the Library at no charge. Items require a photo ID in addition to your library card number, and may require a User Agreement and Liability Waiver.

Telescopes

Become an amateur astronomer at the library!

Place a Hold for the next available telescope.

  • Checkout period is 14 days

  • Patron cards must be in good standing

  • 1 (one) telescope per library cardholder

  • Telescopes are holdable and can be picked up from all library locations

  • Telescopes are not renewable

  • Telescopes must be returned to service desk

  • Replacement fee is $250

  • Replacement parts fees varies per part

  • Travel bag provided

About the Telescope
AWB 130 Newtonian by Astronomers Without Borders features a 130mm paraboloidal f/5 mirror. With a truss tube that collapses to 14.5 inches in seconds and a total weight of just 14 pounds, performance and convenience are combined in one portable package. Never use this telescope to look directly at the sun, as this may cause permanent eye damage.
