School and Youth Programs

Leon County Mosquito Control believes informed students grow to knowledgeable adults who share in the responsibility for controlling mosquitoes in the community, resulting in lowered incidence of mosquito-borne diseases and a more enjoyable outdoor experience for all residents.

To fulfill that mission Mosquito Control offers a variety of educational program designed to teach students about the life cycle of mosquitoes, the diseases they carry, how to reduce their numbers where they live and even stories and legends to enliven their knowledge.

Mosquito Control accomplishes this through classroom and summer camp presentations with live models and educational materials and opportunities for hands-on learning.

Mosquito Control designs programs to meet the Sunshine State Standards for grade levels.

Educational programs and materials are available for students and teachers for every public and private school in Leon County.  Presentations with hands-on learning opportunities can be made to individual classes or large groups of science students across grade levels, beginning with third grade.

Presentations with hands-on learning opportunities are available for participants of public and private summer camps.

Mosquito Control staff works with science teachers to provide them with life cycle kits, informational materials and classroom presentations.

Free Mosquito and Copepod Science Kits are available to all teachers through the Florida Medical Entomological Laboratory.
