History

In 2008, Leon County launched a wellness program with the goal of improving the overall health of its employees by getting them to be proactive in managing and promoting healthy lifestyles. The County Administrator appointed an integrated Wellness Team comprised of a diverse group of representatives from the Board and some of the Constitutional Offices.

In 2011, the Board approved funding for a full time Health and Well-Being Coordinator, who joined the County in early 2012. With the goals in mind of trying to mitigate the continued rising cost of health care and to integrate wellness into the overall Leon LEADS culture, the Board approved several new initiatives to create a solid infrastructure for the Wellness Program to be successful.

Among those initiatives are:

  • A Value Based Benefit Design (VBD) Program to incentivize employees to participate in the Wellness Program.
  • A new Wellness Policy, with Guidelines included, to insure employee privacy, confidentiality and adherence to HIPPA, GINA and ADA requirements and to give an hour each month for employees to participate in County sponsored wellness activities.
  • The rebranding of the Wellness program to a more holistic, inclusive Well-Being program designed to integrate individual wellness with organizational wellness.
