Leon County Transforms Appaloosa Run Neighborhood During 9/11 Day of Service
Today, Leon County Government held its annual 9/11 Day of Remembrance and Service, uniting more than 70 County employees, community partners, and citizen volunteers. The group completed various revitalization and beautification projects in the Appaloosa Run neighborhood on Nez Perce Trail. The County’s annual tradition honors the sacrifice and spirit of unity shown by the individuals and families who rose in service following the tragic events of September 11, 2001.
“For 14 years, Leon County has had the honor of serving the community in memory of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Brian Welch. “Through our service, we carry forward the spirit of unity demonstrated by the brave first responders, military personnel, and volunteers who answered the call following those tragic events.”
Throughout the day, volunteers completed various housing revitalization and beautification projects at five homes in the Appaloosa Run neighborhood, including exterior home painting, landscaping, soft washing, and more.
“I am proud to join Leon County staff and volunteers to serve our neighbors in the Appaloosa Run community,” said District 3 Commissioner Rick Minor. “By working together during the County's 9/11 Day of Remembrance and Service, we honor the legacy of service from that day and make a tangible difference in the lives of our residents.”
Since 2011, Leon County Government has held the 9/11 Day of Remembrance and Service to honor victims, survivors, and others who rose in service in response to the attacks. Long. “Our annual 9/11 Day of Remembrance and Service is an important way for our community to pay tribute and make a lasting impact on our neighbors’ lives.”
