Chief Chad Abrams

Chad Abrams was appointed Director of the Office of Public Safety and Chief of Emergency Medical Services on July 1, 2015. Abrams came to Leon County in April 2004 to serve as the Deputy Chief of Administration in the EMS Division and held that position until being appointed Chief. Chief Abrams is a native of Pennsylvania and began his EMS career there in 1989 when he became an Emergency Medical Technician and then progressed through the ranks of emergency services serving as a firefighter, EMT, paramedic, and paramedic crew chief before being promoted into an administrative role as a Deputy Director of an EMS system.

He is a certified Paramedic and holds an Associate of Science degree in Emergency Management; a Bachelor degree in Public Safety Administration with a concentration in Fire Science and Emergency Management; and a Master’s of Science in Administration (MSA) degree with a concentration in Public Administration. Abrams is a member of the National EMS Management Association, the International Association of EMS Chiefs and the Florida Council of EMS Chiefs.
