Child Passenger Safety Seat Program

Leon County EMS is committed to ensuring the safety of children. Car seats are essential to a child's safety and are one of the best ways you can protect a child while traveling. With the vast array of car seats available, it can be difficult for a parent or caregiver to know which one to buy, let alone how to install it properly.

Leon County EMS offers instruction by appointment and free of charge that will help guide the parent or caregiver in the decision-making process and teach them how to install and use the car seat correctly. Leon County EMS has qualified Child Passenger Safety Technicians who complete intensive training and national certification to become technicians. Parents and caregivers will learn the appropriate car seat for the age and weight of a child and when to transition a child to the next seat to keep the child safe as they grow.

Leon County EMS has a limited supply of no-cost convertible child passenger car seats for County residents. We do not offer infant carrier seats.

Supplies are limited to one car seat per child. To qualify for a car seat, a caregiver must meet these requirements:

  • They are not able to purchase a car seat at a regular cost.
  • They have some form of government assistance, such as Medicaid, WIC program, or Healthy Start.
  • Their child does not currently have a seat or is outgrowing their current seat.
  • They are a resident of Leon County.
