Frequently Asked Questions

How do I establish eligibility to bring items to the RWSC?

The RWSC is limited to residents of unincorporated Leon County (those residing outside of City Limits) either full or part time. To prove residency, bring your Government ID listing an unincorporated Leon County address, or your ID and an official piece mail (utility bill, tax document, lease agreement) to verify your address.

Is there any cost associated with bringing items to the RWSC?

No, unincorporated residents are allowed one free load of household garbage, recycling, bulk, or yard waste per day. A load is considered a level pickup truck bed full of materials. Residents with excess materials will be turned away and sent to Marpan.

Can I bring household hazardous waste and electronics to the RWSC?

Leon County strongly supports responsible disposal of waste. Limited Household hazardous waste items and electronics are accepted at all RWSC sites. If you have an item that is not on the list of limited items accepted, please bring to it the Household Hazardous Waste Center or call 850-606-1803 for instruction.

Can I bring my items in a trailer?

Trailers may be used, so long as they do not contain more than the 8’ x 6’ x 2’, or 3.5 cubic yards, of materials. (Approximately one level pickup bed size load.)

Can the tree trimming company I hired bring the wood debris to the RWSC?

No. Commercial entities are not allowed to utilize the Rural Waste Centers, even if the debris is from a residential property. Professionals can bring their waste to the Solid Waste Management Facility at 7550 Apalachee Parkway.

Can I subscribe to curbside collection?

All Leon County residents may subscribe to curbside collection through Waste Pro. Paid services include weekly garbage and recycle collection, yard debris pick up, and bulky item pick up. Call Waste Pro at 850-606-1899 to establish a service account.
