Pollinator Count at Northeast Branch Library
On August 23, members of the Tallahassee Garden Club’s Babies Breath Circle joined the Great Southeast Pollinator Census at the Northeast Branch Library. Sponsored by the University of Georgia, the annual census documents the number and variety of pollinators visiting native gardens and other habitats across the region. The project highlights how these spaces strengthen and sustain vital pollinator populations.
The butterfly and native plant garden at the entrance to the Northeast Branch Library is a Tallahassee Garden Club project. Although the library’s garden has participated in the census for only two years, this year’s results showed pollinator numbers doubling on plants previously surveyed.
Garden Club members Bill and Nancy Groover supported the effort by providing training and recording the results for submission to the census database. Their work, along with the efforts of the Babies Breath Circle, contributes to a growing understanding of how pollinator-friendly gardens make a difference in our community.
