* Leon County is committed to ensuring that construction and infrastructure projects throughout our community are completed safely, on schedule, and to the highest standards. However, weather conditions in our region can impact construction timelines. Heavy rainfall and tropical weather events may delay earthwork, paving, and concrete operations, while extreme heat can create unsafe working conditions and affect material performance. Cold weather and freezing temperatures can also halt work, as frost and ice compromise the integrity of concrete, asphalt, and other temperature-sensitive materials. Severe weather events may require stopping work entirely to protect both workers and the public.
In addition to weather, construction projects may encounter unforeseen site conditions or logistical challenges that affect schedules. These can include encountering hard rock or unexpected subsurface conditions during excavation, discovering unmarked or mislocated utilities such as pipes or cables, or experiencing material and supply chain delays beyond the project manager's control.
When delays occur, the County works closely with contractors to adjust schedules and minimize impacts to the community. Project teams monitor conditions continuously and make every effort to resume work as quickly and safely as circumstances allow. While construction schedules account for some variability, prolonged or severe conditions may extend anticipated completion dates.
We appreciate the community's patience and understanding as we work to deliver these improvements. For questions or concerns about a specific project, residents are encouraged to contact Leon County Public Works at (850) 606-1500.
