Magnolia Drive Trail Project
Project Information
This project page will be regularly updated.
The goal of the Magnolia Drive Trail project is to enhance connectivity and improve safety along the South Magnolia Corridor from South Adams Street to Apalachee Parkway.
Since construction efforts began in 2016, Leon County and Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency have undertaken several improvements, including:
- Creating trails to enhance connectivity.
- Updating landscaping to beautify the area.
- Enhancing street lighting to improve pedestrian safety.
- Upgrading water and sewer infrastructure for better functionality.
Additionally, the overhead electric lines will be converted to underground, increasing the area’s resiliency during storm events and improving the corridor’s aesthetics.
Project Update: Phase II
A bit of dust leads to a lot of beauty!
Leon County is excited to bring new sidewalks, beautiful landscaping, street lighting, and also putting the overhead electrical lines underground.
Beginning May 8, and continuing until the end of 2025, the County and our partners will be significantly improving Magnolia Drive from Pontiac Drive to Diamond Street.
Following the May 10 tornado outbreak, Phase 2 of the Magnolia Drive Trail Project will resume on Wednesday, June 5, to enhance connectivity and improve safety along the South Magnolia Corridor.
That section will be closed to through traffic, but residents along that section will be able to access their driveways during construction. Any interruption to access will be temporary and communicated by the contractor well in advance.
Improvements for Phase 2 include:
- Roadway reconstruction
- 8-foot multi-use trail on the south and east side of the roadway
- 4-foot landscape buffer between the path and roadway
- 8-foot sidewalk between Seminole Drive and Alban Avenue
- Traffic signal at Jim Lee Road and Magnolia Drive
- Potable water and sanitary sewer upgrade
- Enclosed stormwater drainage system on the south and east side of the roadway
- Street lighting
- Trash and recycle pads
- Underground electric provided by the City of Tallahassee
