Leon Ready: Neighborhood Readiness Training
Prepare for the Atlantic Hurricane Season with your neighborhood by registering for Leon Ready’s Neighborhood Readiness Trainings. Neighborhood trainings will begin in June to coincide with the start of the Atlantic Hurricane Season.
Trainings are roughly 30 minutes and are designed to be a part of regularly scheduled neighborhood meetings. At each neighborhood training, a County representative will bring five disaster preparedness buckets for neighborhood distribution.  Oceans of Possibilities: Summer Reading Program
Citizens of all ages are invited to enjoy the Leon County Public Library’s summer programs! Throughout June and July, entertaining and educational summer programming will focus on the theme “Oceans of Possibilities,” celebrating the diverse programs and services available at the library. Attendees can enjoy animal encounters, music and theater performances, lectures, teen adulting 101 and social IQ events, story times, crafts, and games at all library locations. County Celebrating Pride Month with Library Event June is Pride Month, and the LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library has a plethora of resources and events taking place throughout the month to celebrate the achievements and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community. From book clubs to arts & crafts, learn something new about the LGBTQ+ community and events that shaped history through our library resources at LeonCountyFL.gov/PrideMonth.
Apply for the Neighborhood Recognition Program Citizens are invited to nominate their outstanding neighborhoods and neighbors for the 41st annual Leon County Neighborhood Recognition Program. Applications are due July 1 at 5 p.m. In partnership with the Council of Neighborhood Associations (CONA), the program celebrates the vibrant neighborhoods and dedicated community leaders that call Leon County home. Fertilizer Rain Delay Continues in June. The Fertilizer Rain Delay campaign reminds homeowners and professional fertilizer applicators not to apply fertilizer for at least one day ahead of forecasted heavy rain (1 inch or more in 24 hours). Check Leon County social media pages for a reminder to refrain from fertilizing whenever there is heavy rain in the forecast.
Leon County Schools 2022 Summer Academic Support Update
This summer, Leon County Schools is pleased to bring the student community multiple, high-quality options for addressing pandemic learning loss by accelerating student learning through remediation and enrichment in ELA, reading, and math. School sites are offering programs of academic support tailored to meet the needs of their students and students' families, as well as preparing for the implementation of a new set of academic standards throughout the state—Florida's new Benchmarks for Excellent Student Thinking (B.E.S.T.) and the new coordinated system of progress monitoring, the Florida Assessment of Student Thinking (F.A.S.T.).
