Citizen Engagement Series: Disaster Resilience Edition
Thursday, July 25, starting at 6 p.m.
Public Safety Complex, 911 Easterwood Drive
Step behind the scenes at the Emergency Operations Center and learn how to prepare for disasters with local public safety experts. This interactive event will feature hands-on activities and demonstrations for the whole family.
Dinner and refreshments will be provided. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that this event requires walking to and from sessions. While assistance services will be available, they are limited. We encourage all attendees to prepare accordingly for walking throughout the event.

Applications Now Open for Federal Disaster Assistance Following May 10 Tornadoes
Help is available for individuals and households in Leon County who sustained losses from the May 10 severe storms and tornadoes. Disaster assistance can include financial help with immediate needs, temporary lodging, and home repairs, as well as other disaster-related expenses.
There are several ways to apply:
Residents can visit the Disaster Recovery Center at the Leon County LeRoy Collins Main Library, 200 W. Park Ave., to get help with an application for federal assistance. The center is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The center will be closed on July 4 in observance of Independence Day. No appointment is necessary. All services provided are free.
FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers will also be available on a rotational schedule at three locations. Each location will operate daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The schedule is as follows:
- Woodville Community Center, 8000 Old Woodville Road: Open from Monday, July 1 through Friday, July 5 (closed on July 4 in observance of the holiday).
- Apalachee Regional Park Operations Building, 7550 Apalachee Parkway: Open from Sunday, July 7 through Sunday, July 14.
- Fort Braden Community Center, 16387 Blountstown Highway: Open from Tuesday, July 16 through Sunday, July 21.
Additionally, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) offers low-interest disaster loans for homeowners, renters, businesses and nonprofit organizations to cover losses not fully compensated by insurance and other sources. Apply online at SBA’s secure website at SBA.gov/Disaster. Residents can visit the Business Recovery Center at Domi Station, 914 Railroad Ave., from Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. No appointment is necessary. All services provided are free.

Bicentennial Backyard Bucket List Continues in July
Support local businesses and explore your community with the Bicentennial Backyard Bucket List Challenge. Now through August, visit a “bucket list” of local businesses and attractions and check in through the Visit Tallahassee mobile app. Each check in earns participants one entry for the grand prize, while 10, 15, and 20 entries earn separate prizes. At the end of the campaign, one grand prize winner will be awarded a two-night staycation that includes hotel accommodations, meals, and activities. A web-based option for entry is also available.

2024 Fall Seed Library Kickoff

The Leon County Fall Seed Library kicks off on Saturday, August 3, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Leon County Main Library. Choose from 11 seed varieties to build your fall garden, participate in educational activities, and learn how to create a successful home garden.
Starting August 3, visit any library location and check out up to five seed packets per month using your library card, or three packets per month without a library card, while supplies last. Don't have a library card or need a replacement? Register online for a library card today.

Fertilizer Rain Delay
The Fertilizer Rain Delay campaign reminds homeowners and professional fertilizer applicators not to apply fertilizer for at least one day ahead of forecasted heavy rain (1 inch or more in 24 hours). Check Leon County social media pages for a reminder to refrain from fertilizing whenever there is heavy rain in the forecast.
