Summer Backyard Bucket List

Continues in July

Support local businesses and explore your community with the Summer Backyard Bucket List Challenge. Now through August, visit a “bucket list” of local businesses and attractions and check in through the Visit Tallahassee mobile app. Each check-in earns participants one entry to the contest, while 20 entries earn each participant a t-shirt. At the end of the campaign, one grand prize winner will be awarded a two-night staycation that includes hotel accommodations, meals, and activities. A web-based option for entry is also available.

Learn Before You Burn

In Florida, escaped yard waste from burn piles is the leading cause of wildfires. Smoke particulates from burning yard waste can also cause serious health problems including asthma and lung disease. When exposed to high levels of particle pollution, healthy people and people with existing lung disease may not be able to breathe as deeply or vigorously as they normally would.

Help keep the air clean by using these alternative solutions to dispose of yard waste:

✓ Unincorporated County residents may bring yard and household waste to the nearest Rural and Solid Waste Center.
✓ Mulch leaves into garden beds, which will build soil health.
✓ Compost yard waste in your backyard or at a community compost site.
✓ Limbs cut to less than six feet can be picked up by Waste Pro’s curbside service.
