Envision a Greener Tomorrow at Leon County’s Seventh Annual CosmicCon

Go on a journey to an EcoStation in the stars during Leon County Government’s seventh annual CosmicCon, a free, family-friendly event on Saturday, August 23, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Leon County Main Library. Featuring this year’s theme, Solarpunk Utopia, the library will transform into a beacon of sustainability and innovation with hands-on activities, interactive sessions, cosplay competitions, scavenger hunts, and more.
Immersive programming for all ages includes:
- Keep Gardens Punk! Native Plants, Pollinators, and Solutions from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. – Discover eco-friendly gardening tips and learn how native plants and pollinators support a sustainable Florida with Native Nurseries.
- Mechanical Hands from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Need an extra hand? Create a cardboard puppet hand to slip over your own as a cyborg creation.
- Solarpunk Trivia from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. – Test your knowledge of solarpunk fiction in a fast-paced trivia challenge.
- Cosplay Competition from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. – Suit up in your favorite fandom cosplay and connect with fellow fans for a chance to win gift card prizes. The competition is open to participants ages eight and older. Registration is required to participate. The competition will be followed by an all-ages costume parade.
Attendees can also treat themselves to local fare for purchase at food trucks onsite throughout the event.
