County Invites Community to Let It Grow During Fall Seed Library

Join Leon County Government on Saturday, August 3, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for the Fall Seed Library kickoff at the downtown Leon County Main Library, 200 West Park Avenue. The Leon County Seed Library Program has more than 250,000 seeds available for residents to grow their own gardens this fall.
In partnership with the UF/IFAS Leon County Extension, the kickoff event will offer fun for all ages, including hands-on seeding activities, information about vegetable gardening techniques and sustainable gardening practices, healthy food sampling, and an Ask-a-Master-Gardener booth. Staff from the Leon County Office of Sustainability and UF/IFAS Leon County Extension will also be available to answer questions and address all your gardening needs.
The 11 seed varieties offered through the Fall Seed Library will be available at all Leon County Public Library locations starting Saturday, August 3, at 10 a.m. Citizens can check out up to five seed packets per month using their library card, or three packets per month without a library card, while supplies last. Register for or check the status of a library card at LeonCountyLibrary.org/LibraryCard.
The 2024 fall seed varieties include:
- Early Wonder Tall Top Beets
- Hen Peck Collards
- Italian Giant Parsley
- Lady Slipper Radish
- Purple Vienna Kohlrabi
- Rainbow Blend Carrots
- Viroflay Spinach
- Waltham 29 Broccoli
- White Egg Turnips
- White Stem Pak ChoiÂ
- Wild Arugula
Since 2015, the Leon County Seed Library Program has offered seasonal seed varieties each fall and spring to residents at the Leon County Public Library. The program encourages residents to practice sustainable gardening and grow their own healthy and nutritious foods at home. Leon County has distributed more than 1.2 million seeds to the community since the program was established in 2015.
