Leon County Government is accepting applications for the Fall 2025 semester of the Leon Works Junior Apprenticeship Program. In partnership with Leon County Schools (LCS), this award-winning apprenticeship program provides Leon County high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to learn valuable workforce skills. Applications for the Fall 2025 semester are now open at LeonCountyFL.gov/JRApprentice and close on Monday, March 31.
Created in 2017, the Leon Works Junior Apprenticeship Program highlights the County’s commitment to fostering talent and creating a robust future workforce. By pairing high school students with experts in their fields, the County bridges academic pursuits with real-world applications, focusing on skilled trades that are imperative for today’s workforce.
The program has placed more than 115 students in various positions in Leon County Government since its inception. The program is currently looking to fill positions in the following areas:
- (1) Computer Aided Design (CAD)
- (1) Construction Contract Management
- (2) Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)/Paramedic
- (1) Fleet Mechanic
- (1) Graphics and Digital Design
- (2) Information Technology (IT) Support
- (1) Medical Administrative Associate
- (1) Web Development
The program is open to high school juniors and seniors who reside in and attend a public, charter, private, or LCS virtual school in Leon County during the 2025-26 school year. To participate, students must be enrolled in or have completed a high school-level Career and Technical Education (CTE) course or program. Â This program equips high school students with valuable career skills while allowing them to earn an hourly wage and elective credit toward their diploma, preparing them to enter the workforce after graduation.
Â
The Junior Apprenticeship Program plays a pivotal role in preparing youth for well-paying job opportunities in the future. By 2032, more than 38,000 jobs that require more than a high school diploma, but less than a four-year college degree with average wages over $22 per hour will be available in Leon County and the surrounding region. To support the growth of high-demand careers, Leon County is committed to its strategic goal of connecting at least 7,000 students with skilled job opportunities that require education beyond high school but not a four-year degree.
Interested applicants should apply at LeonCountyFL.gov/JRApprentice by Monday, March 31, at 11:59 p.m. For answers to frequently asked questions, visit LeonCountyFL.gov/JRApprentice/FAQs.
