  • Age Requirements
    You must be a junior or senior at a Leon County High School and at least 16 years old.
     
  • Minimum GPA and Absences
    You must have a 2.5 minimum G.P.A. and no more than 5 school absences per nine weeks.
     
  • Work Schedule
    You must be able to take the Junior Apprenticeship program Executive Internship 1 or Executive Internship 2 elective during your last period of the day or have your school day end by 2pm. (Confirm with your school guidance counselor before applying)
     
  • Transportation
    You must be able to provide your own transportation to your Leon County worksite.
     
  • Related Coursework
    To apply you must be enrolled in or have previously completed a Career & Technical Education (CTE) program or other coursework that is related to the Junior Apprenticeship positions you are applying for. Students applying for the Fleet Mechanic Junior Apprenticeship must be dual enrolled in the Automotive Services Technology Program at Lively Technical College.
     
  • Fleet Mechanic Applicants Only
    You must be dual-enrolled in the Automotive Services Technology Program at Lively Technical College

    You must be able to work on Fridays from 1:00p.m. to 5:00p.m.

  • EMT/Paramedic Applicants Only
    Students applying for the EMT/Paramedic Junior Apprenticeship must be at least 17 years old at the start of the program and previously completed or be enrolled in a First Responders or Medical CTE course.

Selected Junior Apprentices will work in a Leon County department for one semester, aligning with the LCS district calendar. Fall semesters will run from August to December and Spring semester will run from January to May.

Junior Apprentices earn the State of Florida minimum wage rate.
 

A CTE course or program prepares students to earn an industry-recognized certification or licensure. More information about Career & Technical Education in Leon County can be found here.

Yes, students may apply for a maximum of 2 Junior Apprenticeship positions. Please use the same application to apply for both positions. Only the first 2 positions selected by the applicant will be documented.

Past Junior Apprentices are not eligible to reapply for the program, but should consider applying for County’s Summer Youth Training Program.

Yes! Free public transportation is available to all K-12 students in Leon County through the StarMetro Bus System. For more information about StarMetro and their bus routes, visit www.talgov.com/starmetro or call (850) 891-5200.

Yes, students participating in the program will take either Executive Internship 1 or Executive Internship 2 as an elective during their last class period. Before applying to the Program, students should meet with their guidance counselor to discuss whether the Junior Apprenticeship will fit into their course schedule.
