Temporary Closure of Solid Waste Management Facility Supports World Athletics Cross Country Championships Operations
As Leon County prepares to host the 46th Annual World Athletics Cross Country Championships (WXC Tallahassee 26) at Apalachee Regional Park on Saturday, January 10, 2026, the Leon County Solid Waste Management Facility (7550 Apalachee Parkway) will close beginning at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 7. The temporary closure supports event security requirements and site operations for athletes, teams, and spectators. The facility will resume normal operating hours Monday, January 12, 2026.

Hosting this internationally recognized championship is a historic moment for Leon County, the State of Florida, and the United States.

Curbside residential pickup will not be affected by this closure.

During the closure, the following services will be unavailable at the Solid Waste Management Facility:
- Solid waste, bulk waste, and recycling drop-off
- Hazardous waste drop-off
- Yard debris drop-off and mulch collection
- Tire drop-off
