Thanks for continuing to use the library!
After closing the libraries on March 14, books, DVDs and other materials were temporarily unavailable. During this time, our e-book, e-audio, digital magazine and streaming video resources were nothing short of a “hit." Increases in use of some categories reached as high as 700%. That’s amazing! We encourage you to continue enjoying these options.
When curbside service began on May 4, items on hold became available for checkout again. This contact-free service is available at all 7 library locations. Look for an orange bucket with a tall sign. Park in one of the designated spaces, call the number on the sign, and our staff will take it from there. We’ll ask a few questions before hanging up, locating and checking out your items, and delivering to your vehicle. Please be sure to have your library card or photo i.d. with you to show through the driver side window.
On June 5, we were able to welcome you back into the library buildings. We are offering limited, essential services: browsing for and checking out books, movies and other items; picking up holds; and using a computer and/or printing. You’ll find markings for one-way aisles in the stacks, reminders to remain at least 6 feet apart, designated spaces for where to stand for service, and more. Computers are socially distanced and available to use with a computer pass that staff will provide. Cleaning of high-touch surfaces is ongoing throughout the day.
At this first stage of restoring access to the buildings, we are not able to offer seating for reading and quiet study, meeting spaces, or in-library programs. We look forward to offering those again in the future. In the meantime, please check out the excellent variety of virtual programs that we are offering here. And don’t miss out on the annual Summer Reading program! There is a lot to discover and enjoy, starting here, in addition to the Adventure Bags that are available curbside and in the libraries.
On our immediate horizon is the launch of an exciting new format for our younger library users! On Monday, July 6, the Library will begin offering Launchpads. These pre-loaded learning tablets are perfect for ages 3-5 as they prepare for Kindergarten. (Other ages may enjoy them as well.) Themes and subjects vary, and include colors, numbers, letters, music, art, self-esteem and more. These devices are intended to make learning fun and engaging. Launchpads cannot connect to the Internet; are rechargeable; and have a specially-designed sturdy exterior. There will be a limit of 3 per library card. And like other items in our collections, you can place a hold if the one you want is already checked out.

The following services are available at each of our locations:
- Our buildings are open to the public at 50% capacity. Patrons are encouraged to limit their visits to an hour per day. Per Leon County ordinance, patrons are required to wear a face covering while in the library.
- In-library services currently include browsing the library shelves; selecting items to check out and/or picking up items already placed on hold; and use of self-checkout at some libraries.
- Curbside pick-up is encouraged as a contact-free, convenient way to check out items on hold. Notifications that holds are ready for pick-up are sent via e-mail, text, or phone call (your choice!). You can also check the status of your hold requests through the "My Account" option via the Library app or our web site.
- Main Library Hours of Operation:
- Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Branch Libraries Hours of Operation:
- Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- The online catalog and library mobile app are available to reserve materials; you may also call (850) 606-2665 for staff assistance. More detailed information about curbside pickup is available here.
- Mobile offerings and library-based telephone services by calling (850) 606-2665 will continue.
- Library computers are available for one hour per person per day at physically distanced terminals. Please note! Computers shut down at 5 p.m. to allow time for extra cleaning at the end of each day.
- Information and technology help continue to be provided by phone and e-mail. Call your favorite location or e-mail AnswerSquad@leoncountylibrary.org .
- Free Wi-Fi is accessible from the library parking lots.
- Book drops should continue to be used to return materials. From there, the items go to quarantine for 3 days before being checked in by staff. (Please call the library to arrange for return of telescopes, Traveling Book Club bags and other items that cannot be handled in the book returns.)
- We regret that donations of new or used print or media material cannot be accepted at this time. Information about the Friends of the Library book drop off sites can be found here.

Free Reusable Masks for the Public at all Library Locations
In coordination with the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), free reusable cloth masks are available for a limited time at all County library locations. Masks are available via curbside pickup and inside.
This initiative complements Leon County Government's ongoing efforts to distribute cloth face masks at faith-based organizations in southern Leon County, at the Bragg testing site, and at FDOH’s mobile testing sites throughout the community. All told, we will make or have made nearly 100,000 cloth masks available for the public.

Fall Seed Library
Seeds will be available at all library locations beginning Saturday, August 8th! Visit any library branch location and check out up to three seed packets each month. No need to return them, they are yours to keep.
