Library lovers, including avid readers, researchers, students, and enthusiasts, unite during this month to express their admiration for these spaces that foster learning, provide access to a vast array of knowledge, and serve as hubs for cultural exchange. Let's take a moment to recognize the dedicated librarians who curate collections, assist patrons, and create an inclusive environment for all.
Whether through engaging programs, book clubs, or community outreach programs, Library Lovers Month encourages everyone to embrace their love for libraries and celebrate the enduring significance of these intellectual sanctuaries. The Leon County Public Library catalog has a new look!
We are thrilled to introduce our new library catalog, which is designed to make exploring our vast collection easier and more enjoyable. The new mobile-friendly catalog makes searching for materials, accessing your account, and discovering new titles easier on the go.
Check out these new features to explore as you browse:
- A redesigned menu for easier navigation and discoverability of our many resources and services.
- Recommended book titles from our most popular categories, including New York Times Best Sellers, Coming Soon, and more.
- A sleek, minimalistic design that makes the menu and catalog search bar shine.
- Your favorite features, including Advanced Search, My Account, My Lists, and Reader Resources, are still available.

In honor of the Tallahassee-Leon County Bicentennial in 2024, limited edition Bicentennial-themed library cards are now available to all eligible Leon County residents. While supplies last, replace your current library card with a Bicentennial library card at no cost at any Leon County Public Library location.

Join us on Saturday, February 10, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the downtown Main Library for the 2024 Spring Seed Library kickoff. In partnership with UF/IFAS Leon County Extension, the event will feature fun for all ages, including hands-on seeding activities, insights on gardening techniques and sustainable practices, and an Ask-a-Master-Gardener booth. While you're there, choose from 10 fruit and vegetable varieties to jumpstart your spring gardening.
Starting Saturday, February 10, visit any library location and check out up to five seed packets per month using your library card, or three packets per month without a library card, while supplies last.

Celebrate the contributions, triumphs, and achievements of Black Americans during Black History Month with some of our upcoming events:
- Finding Your Roots: Researching Your Family History for Beginners, Saturday, February 10, at 1 p.m., Dr. B.L. Perry, Jr. Branch Library – Experienced researcher Dr. Juanita Gaston will teach you how to explore your family tree with a deep dive into birth, marriage, and death records. Registration is required.
- The Antebellum South and Tallahassee’s Bicentennial, Thursday, February 15, at 6 p.m., Dr. B.L. Perry, Jr. Branch Library – Violet Sharpe, assistant director of the Riley House Museum, will give a presentation about slavery in the Antebellum South.
- African American Read-In, Saturday, February 17, at 1 p.m., downtown Main Library – This event brings the community together to build literacy skills by enjoying children’s stories by African American authors read aloud by local speakers.

Join us on Saturday, March 2, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., as we launch the 2024 NEA Big Read featuring The Bear by Andrew Krivak at McCarty Park outside the Leon County Main Library. Our kickoff celebration will include hands-on activities highlighting Leon County's rich historical past, local ecology, and sustainability for the future. Don't miss a scavenger hunt, Wander and Wonder story walk, and delicious offerings from food trucks. Plus, snag a free copy of The Bear while supplies last.
