Leon County Government invites the community to explore the history of the Native peoples of the Apalachee Region during the next event in the award-winning Library Lecture Series on Monday, September 22, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the downtown Main Library, 200 West Park Avenue.
Presented by Edward Randall Ornstein, Esq., Deputy General Counsel and Embassy Director of the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida, From Lake Miccosukee to the Everglades: Native Voices of the Apalachee Region will trace the Tribe’s journey from their home on the banks of Lake Miccosukee to the Everglades and Big Cypress Swamps. The program will highlight the impact of colonization, war, and removal, and the Tribe’s ongoing role in environmental stewardship across Florida today.
This program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
Since 2017, the Leon County Library Lecture Series has featured dozens of local, regional, and national speakers to engage and inspire the community with thoughtful discussions about topics in the arts and sciences.
