Leon County Honors Hispanic Heritage with Library Programs and Resources
Leon County Government celebrates the achievements and contributions of Hispanic Americans during Hispanic Heritage Month with exhibits, performances, author talks, and digital resources from the LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library System. Thematic book lists, movie watchlists, and online resources give citizens of all ages the opportunity to learn about the inspiring Hispanic American men and women who helped shape our community and the world. Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated each year from September 15 through October 15.
In addition to these in-person and digital resources, citizens are encouraged to attend the County’s upcoming Hispanic Heritage Month events:
- Cultura Tallahassee: The Colors of Community Exhibit, September 15-October 15, Leon County Main Library – Celebrate Hispanic culture, heritage, and history with an exhibit featuring artwork by local artists in a variety of mediums.
- Cultura Tallahassee: The Colors of Community Exhibit Opening, Saturday, September 20, from 1 to 2 p.m., Leon County Main Library – Enjoy an opening reception featuring artwork by local artists in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. Light refreshments will be provided.
- Beyond the Script: A Journey Into Hispanic Theater, Wednesday, September 24, from 6 to 7 p.m., Leon County Main Library – Experience a performance by the Tallahassee Hispanic Theater showcasing a local playwright, followed by a discussion on contemporary Hispanic drama with Florida State University Spanish instructor Alejandra Gutiérrez.
- Virtual Author Talk: Nuestra América with Adrián Aldaba and Emily Key, Thursday, October 2, from 2 to 3 p.m., virtual – Join Smithsonian educators Adrián Aldaba and Emily Key as they discuss Nuestra América, an anthology highlighting inspiring stories of Latinos who shaped the cultural, social, and political history of the United States.
