Library Discard Program

The LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library provides a wide range of reading materials for the enjoyment and lifelong learning of the general public. When individual items are no longer usable by the library, they are withdrawn from library collections.

The Library offers discarded library books to non-profit organizations so that the items may be used by others.

The first Wednesday of every month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Leon County Main Library garage on Bronough Street, a library volunteer displays carts of discarded library materials for representatives of non-profit organizations to peruse. Any items that remain are donated to the Friends of the Library

Materials are available on a first-come, first-served basis. If garage doors are closed, all items for the week have been claimed.

In order to select and take materials, representatives of non-profit organizations must present a current Florida Department of Revenue certificate of exemption showing their sales tax-free status, and sign the Library Discard Program Log.

The Library volunteer assists the non-profit organizations’ representatives as they select materials and box or bag them. Representatives must bring their own boxes or bags, and they may park in the garage driveway for loading only.
