Tallahassee-Leon County Welcomes Thousands of Athletes for Upcoming Cross-Country Meet

 

TALLAHASSEE-LEON COUNTY WELCOMES THOUSANDS OF ATHLETES

FOR UPCOMING CROSS-COUNTRY MEET

 

WHO:              Leon County Tourism

WHAT:             Florida State University Cross-Country Invitational and Pre-State Meet

WHEN:             Media Check-In Oct. 11 and 12 beginning at 7:00 a.m.

WHERE:           Apalachee Regional Park, 7550 Apalachee Parkway

 

The Florida State University Cross-Country Invitational and Pre-State Meet opens the 2019 cross- country season at Leon County’s award-winning Apalachee Regional Park, Oct. 11 – 12, 2019.

Hosted by the Leon County Division of Tourism/Visit Tallahassee, this year’s meet is expected to bring nearly 7,000 athletes, coaches and spectators from throughout the Southeast to the area, leading to millions of dollars in economic impact. In addition to this being the largest college meet ever to be hosted at Apalachee Regional Park, this race also serves as the first true competitive test for runners to preview the state cross country course that will be hosted on Nov. 9. All media partners who attend will be given special access to finish line areas, awards presentations and other trails.

Men and women’s university and college teams from throughout the Southeast compete on Friday, Oct. 11 beginning at 7:40 a.m. followed by the middle school and junior varsity (JV) races for boys and girls beginning at 5 p.m. On Saturday, Oct. 12, the boys and girls high school elite, select, varsity A and varsity B teams compete starting at 7:40 a.m.

This meet serves as a preview for the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) State Cross-Country Championships that will be held at Apalachee Regional Park on Nov. 9, 2019.

Friday, Oct. 11

7:40 a.m.         University/College Men (8k)

8:20 a.m.         University/College Women (5k)

5 p.m.              Middle School Girls (3k)

5:30 p.m.         Middle School Boys (3k)

6 p.m.              High School Boys JV (5K)

6:30 p.m.         High School Girls JV (5K)

 

Saturday, Oct. 12

7:40 a.m.         Boys High School Elite (5k)

8:05 a.m.         Girls High School Elite (5k)

8:35 a.m.         Boys High School Select (5k)

9 a.m.              Girls High School Select (5k)

9:30 a.m.         Boys High School Varsity A (5k)

9:55 a.m.         Girls High School Varsity A (5k)

10:25 a.m.       Boys High School Varsity B (5k)

10:50 a.m.       Girls High School Varsity B (5k)

 

MEDIA CREDENTIALS are required for all media attending the Florida State University Cross-Country Invitational and Pre-State Meet. Credentials are available on-site at the Media Tent.
