Tallahassee-Leon County Launches “Open for Takeout”

Initiative highlights businesses offering online, takeout and delivery options

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., March 18, 2020To continue supporting local businesses in Florida’s capital during the Coronavirus pandemic, the Tallahassee-Leon County Office of Economic Vitality (OEV) today launched its “Open for Takeout” initiative to encourage residents to support local businesses while practicing social distancing to minimize the spread of Coronavirus. The initiative also features an interactive map that allows users to view which businesses are open and offer takeout, curbside, delivery and drive through options.

The Open For Takeout initiative is complemented by OEV’s Business Resource Guide and Business Outreach Survey. The Business Resource Guide was designed as a reference to support employers and business owners. The Business Outreach Survey encourages feedback from employers to identify the needs of the business community. This feedback is critical to identifying the needs of our business community, and the best ways in which OEV can leverage resources for local businesses and employees.

“OEV is committed to stepping in to promote our local businesses in ways that align with social distancing guidelines,” Director of OEV Cristina Paredes said. “To that effect, our Open For Takeout initiative will spotlight restaurants remaining open and providing food service through delivery, take-out, curbside pickup, or drive through.”

Based upon the “Open for Business” online interactive map that was developed after back to back active hurricanes seasons, OEV’s Open for Takeout map showcases the hours of operation and contact information for local businesses offering alternative dining options, making it easier for local residents to directly contact businesses for products and services. The Open For Takeout initiative will spotlight restaurants remaining open and providing food service through digital and social media efforts.
