Southern Living Magazine Names Tallahassee One of The South’s Best College Towns

 

Leon County has once again earned the coveted travel distinction from Southern Living magazine as one of the “South’s Best College Towns” as part of the magazine’s sixth annual South’s Best Awards, recognizing readers’ must-visit southern destinations.

Southern Living’s South's Best Awards celebrates the people, places and communities that make the South an exciting and vibrant place to live and visit,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Bill Proctor. “As home to Florida State University, Florida A&M University, and Tallahassee Community College, it comes as no surprise that Leon County was once again recognized as a South’s Best College Town.”

“From groundbreaking research to internationally renowned performances, the colleges and universities that call Tallahassee home offer exciting and engaging opportunities for residents and visitors of all ages," City of Tallahassee Mayor John E. Dailey said. "Being named one of the South’s Best College Towns is a great honor.”

Southern Living is a leading travel and lifestyle publication that celebrates the essence of life in the South, covering the best in Southern food, homes, gardens and travel. Reaching more than 24 million people each month, Southern Living connects consumers to the region's rich culture through a variety of print, digital, mobile and event platforms. The magazine launched the annual crowd-sourced awards six years ago to celebrate the people and places its readers love across the South.

"In recent years, Southern Living has named Leon County one of the South's best communities three different times, most recently as a Best College Town," said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. "These recognitions are a credit to the continued commitment of our local leaders, universities and colleges, businesses and citizens in creating the wonderful community we all share."

National media outlets have taken notice of Tallahassee’s desirable collegiate atmosphere including the ACC Network (ESPN’s sister network) program 3 Day Weekend, scheduled to film an upcoming episode of the show in the Capital City in April. The show provides a closer look at where to stay, what to do and where to eat in Leon County for Florida State University.
