Due to inclement weather, this event has been rescheduled to Wednesday, January 25 at 2 p.m.
Leon County Government will host a roadway dedication ceremony in honor of Georgia “Joy” Bowen, the longest-serving Leon County School Board Member, on Wednesday, January 25 at 2 p.m. at Augusta Raa Middle School, 401 Tharpe Street. The dedicated roadway will extend along Tharpe Street from North Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to Ocala Road.
Designated by the Leon County Board of County Commissioners, the dedication of the Georgia “Joy” Bowen Roadway will recognize former School Board Member Bowen as a loved and respected educator, counselor, public servant and leader in the community.
In 1998, Bowen was elected as a member of the Leon County School Board, and for 24 years, she distinguished herself by her selfless dedication and quality of service for all classes, colors and creeds.
Ceremony attendees will be graced with a performance from the Raa Middle School Steel Drum Band. Parking will be available adjacent to Raa Middle School at the Northwood Centre construction site, located at 514 West Tharpe Street.
