Weather Update
As of 4 p.m. today, Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine is projected to intensify into a hurricane before making landfall in Florida’s Panhandle late Wednesday night into Thursday. The storm is expected to bring dangerous conditions, including heavy rainfall, damaging winds, and coastal flooding. Leon County could see between 6 to 8 inches of rain, with tropical-storm-force winds possibly escalating to hurricane-force gusts. Localized flooding, particularly in low-lying areas, remains an area of focus for first responders.
The most likely timing for Leon County to experience impacts is late Wednesday through Thursday. Prolonged rainfall could lead to flash flooding, and rising river levels may result in hazardous conditions in flood-prone areas. The most severe threat, however, remains hurricane-force winds that could cause widespread power outages, significant property damage, and put lives at risk.
Leon County Emergency Management will continue to monitor the storm and its track closely over the night tonight into Tuesday morning. Following data from the Hurricane Hunter airplanes, the track will be much more certain at that time.
