Join Leon County on Saturday, July 29 from noon until 3 p.m. for the 2017 Fall Seed Library launch at the Eastside Branch Library, 1583 Pedrick Rd.
The launch event will feature experts from Leon County Cooperative Extension who will share tips and instructions about starting your own garden, site selection, irrigation, as well as preparing seasonal recipes.
Starting July 29, library patrons can check out three seed packets per card from all seven LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library locations while supplies last. Library patrons can also browse and check out materials on gardening and cooking.
The seed varieties for Fall 2017 are Arugula, Imperator 58 Carrots, Slo-Bolt Cilantro, Georgia Green Collards, Vates Dwarf Blue Curled Kale, Wild Garden Lettuce Mix, Giant of Italy Parsley, Chinese Red Meat Radish, Galilee Spinach and Five Color Silverbeet Swiss Chard. Each packet contains ten seeds.
The Seed Library Program began in 2015 as a way to promote noninvasive, heirloom vegetable seed planting in Leon County and to encourage residents to grow their own nutritious food.
