Make the Connection: People, Places and Possibilities
Nominations Open for City, County, CONA Neighborhood Recognition Programs

Engaged neighborhoods make a strong community. Through the 2017 Neighborhood Recognition Program, the City of Tallahassee, Leon County Government and Council of Neighborhood Associations (CONA) will once again honor and recognize those neighborhoods and neighbors that have done outstanding work during the past year.

“Neighborhoods are the foundation of our community, and this program recognizes those who go above and beyond,” said Leon County Commission Chairman John E. Dailey. “When neighborhoods and neighbors work together for the good of their community, we all benefit.”

The 37th annual Neighborhood Recognition Program honors outstanding neighborhoods in three categories: Small - 200 or fewer homes; Large - more than 200 homes; and Unincorporated Area - outside the city limits. It also honors the Neighbor of the Year, which is given to an individual who exemplifies the characteristics of leadership and service in making contributions to his or her community. Additionally, CONA is accepting nominations for its 2017 Public Servant of the Year and 2017 Business Neighbor of the Year.

“From rich historic neighborhoods like Smokey Hollow to modern districts like Midtown and Gaines St., Tallahassee is strengthened by our unique communities,” Mayor Andrew Gillum said. “By engaging active neighborhoods, Tallahassee will remain a place where people want to live and raise a family. I encourage all of our neighborhoods to apply and look forward to celebrating this year’s winners.”
