Leon County SustainaBiz Program Recognizes Proof Brewing as a Gold-level Business
County’s SustainaBiz Program Encourages Adoption of Sustainable Business Practices
This week, Leon County Government recognized Proof Brewing Company with Gold level status through the SustainaBiz program. SustainaBiz recognizes local businesses for implementing sustainable practices throughout everyday operations in the areas of energy, water, waste management, community and staff involvement, and the local economy.
“The County’s SustainaBiz program recognizes our local businesses for their innovative thinking and commitment to sustainable practices,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Bill Proctor. “We salute all those local businesses who remain agile during these challenging times, from the smallest mom-and-pop shops to large breweries.”
Since SustainaBiz launched in April 2021, Proof Brewing has received the greatest number of collective points at the Gold level status and joins Architects Lewis + Whitlock, Square Mug Café, and Black Dog Café as a Gold recognized business.
“Along with the expertise of the County’s Sustainability team, the SustainaBiz program serves as a road map for all businesses to conserve natural resources, help their bottom line, and stay connected with the community,” said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. “Kudos to Proof Brewing Company and others for leading the way with the County’s highest SustainaBiz honors.”
Founded in 2012, Proof Brewing has made substantial efforts in implementing sustainable business practices, like recycling half a million pounds of grain each year and donating to local farmers who use the grain to feed their livestock. Beyond these efforts, Proof Brewing became the first craft brewer in Florida to use Earthly Lab’s CO2 recapture system called CiCi®, to recycle carbon produced during the brewing process.
Any business or organization in Leon County, including faith-based organizations and non-profits, are eligible to be recognized by SustainaBiz at no cost to businesses. The program provides organizations with an easy checklist and technical assistance from the County Sustainability team to help determine their recognition level.
