Leon County Shines with Two National Awards for Library Marketing

Recently, Leon County Government was recognized with two American Library Association PR Xchange Awards for marketing materials promoting programs and services available through the LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library System. Leon County received two of the 26 national awards presented for print materials and was the only library in Florida to receive recognition in this category.

“We are incredibly proud to see Leon County's library system recognized on a national stage with these two prestigious awards,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Brian Welch. "This honor is a testament to the hard work, creativity, and dedication of our library staff in connecting with our community and ensuring our residents have access to outstanding programs and resources."

Leon County received an award for the 2024 summer programs booklet, which highlighted the hundreds of programs, reading challenges, scavenger hunts, book clubs, story times, and more that helped keep children, teens, and adults engaged in literacy and fun throughout the summer months. The second award recognized the Essential Libraries Initiative booklet, which outlines the long-range strategic plan that re-envisions the library to address the changing needs of residents and trends in library use.

“Receiving two national marketing awards is a tremendous achievement for Leon County and our library system,” said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. “These awards highlight our success in not only promoting engaging library programs but also how we're working to re-envision library services to best serve our residents today and into the future.”

This year’s competition attracted nearly 300 entries in print and electronic formats from more than 100 national institutions, including public, academic, school, state, and special libraries. Each entry was evaluated for quality of content, format, design, creativity, and originality by a jury of 18 marketing professionals, graphic designers, librarians, and visual artists.

“The Leon County Public Library team is proud to receive two national awards for marketing efforts promoting our programs and services,” said Leon County Public Library Director Pamela Monroe. “To be recognized alongside so many national institutions speaks volumes about the impact of our library’s work.”
