Operation Thank You

Breakfast: 6:30-9 a.m.
Program: 8 a.m.
American Legion, 229 Lake Ella Drive

Leon County and the American Legion will honor our hometown heroes during the annual Operation Thank You Veterans Day breakfast. Breakfast will be served from 6:30 to 9 a.m. The program begins at 8 a.m. when the County will present two proclamations honoring Commander Dennis O. Baker, U.S. Navy veteran who completed 28 years of service, and CWO5 Henry Lowery Jr., U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served in the 1st Battalion 1st Marines during the Vietnam War and completed 33 years of service with numerous deployments.

You’re invited to the dedication ceremony of Leon County's Bruce J. Host Northeast Branch Library. The dedication recognizes Commissioner Host’s more than half century of public and military service, including serving as the Leon County District 4 Commissioner for eight years.

Preserving Your Food Stories: How to Write a Recipe
Thursday, November 9 at 6 p.m.
Leon County Main Library, 200 West Park Ave.

Dive into the history of recipe writing and discover how recipes can bridge generations with author and food commentator Amy Rogers. The event will feature a recipe writing workshop where attendees will develop skills to organize and standardize recipes so they can be preserved for future generations.

Family Day

Railroad Square Art District

Celebrate Family Day on Friday, November 24, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Railroad Square Art District. Family Day at Railroad Square features LIVE entertainment, a family resource center, food trucks, and fun activities for families and children of all ages.
 
Family Day at Railroad Square is a community-led event supported by Leon County Government, the City of Tallahassee, Sachs Media, the Council on Culture & Arts (COCA), Soul of Southside Festival TLH and the Children's Services Council of Leon County.
 
Tallahassee-Leon County is the first community in Florida to recognize Family Day, an annual holiday celebrating the importance of families, togetherness, support, and love.

Crosswalks to Classrooms
Dempsey Mayo Road Ribbon Cutting

Monday, November 13, 2023 at 10 a.m.
W.T. Moore Elementary School, 1706 Dempsey Mayo Road

Leon County Government and the Knight Creative Communities Institute (KCCI) invite the community to the unveiling of the newly constructed artful crosswalks on Dempsey Mayo Road. The elevated and imaginative crosswalks are innovative measures taken by the County in partnership with KCCI to enhance pedestrian crossing visibility and slow down vehicular traffic in this area.

Kids Cafe is now open at the Main Library!
 
Children and teens can enjoy free healthy after school snacks every Monday-Friday from 3-5 p.m. at the downtown Main Library. This program is offered in partnership with Second Harvest of the Big Bend and will continue throughout the school year.

Native American Heritage Month

Leon County Government is celebrating the achievements and contributions of Native peoples past and present throughout November during Native American Heritage Month with Author Talks, book displays, and more from the Leon County Public Library. Attend an event or check out our library resources to learn something new about the rich and diverse history, heritage, and culture of Native peoples.

Fifth Annual Gingerbread House Competition

Sugar and spice and all things nice are in store during the Leon County Public Library's fifth annual Community Gingerbread House Competition! Put your design skills to the test in this family-friendly competition for a chance to win gift card prizes. One winner from each of the five divisions will be selected. Registration opens Saturday, November 18, and the competition will take place on Saturday, December 2, from 1-3 p.m. at the downtown Main Library.
