Leon County Government invites the community to uncover the history behind some of Tallahassee and Leon County’s most familiar place names during the next event in the award-winning Library Lecture Series on Saturday, July 26, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the downtown Main Library, 200 West Park Avenue.
Presented by Marcus Curtis, GIS Specialist with Tallahassee-Leon County Geographic Information Systems (GIS), The Stories Behind the Names: Exploring Local History Using StoryMaps will use archival images, historical maps, and a dynamic digital StoryMap to reveal the enduring contributions and connections of notable community namesakes.
With award-winning work supporting the John G. Riley Center and Museum, the Florida Historic Capitol Museum, and the First Florida Capitol Building, Curtis brings expert insight into how digital tools can preserve and share local heritage. He also served on the Tallahassee-Leon County Bicentennial History Task Force, contributing research and mapping support recognized with multiple prestigious preservation and education awards.
This program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
