Leon County Government invites the community to the next lecture of the award-winning Library Lecture Series, “Florida and the South in the American Revolution,” on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Leon County Main Library, 200 W. Park Ave.
Travel back to 1776 and uncover the often-overlooked roles Florida and the American South played during the American Revolution. Through engaging storytelling and historical insight, attendees will discover how this broader regional history deepens our understanding of the struggle for American independence.
The program will feature Dr. Roger Smith, a published historian and adjunct professor of history at the University of Florida. A nationally recognized speaker on Revolutionary War history, Smith has served as a consultant for the AMC television series “Turn: Washington's Spies” and appeared in the PBS documentary “Secrets of the Dead: The Secrets of Spanish Florida.”
This Library Lecture will be presented as part of Leon County's America250 initiatives commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States. Through special events, exhibits, reading recommendations and other resources, the library invites the community to explore the people, ideas, and events that shaped the nation.
This program is free and open to the public.
Since 2017, the Leon County Library Lecture Series has featured dozens of local, regional, and national speakers to engage and inspire the community with thoughtful discussions about topics in the arts and sciences.
