Leon County Government is hosting the U.S. Air Force (USAF) Inland Search and Rescue (SAR) Planning Course from the National SAR School from Monday, October 17 through Friday, October 21 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at the Public Safety Complex, 911 Easterwood Drive.Â
Â
County Emergency Management staff and local emergency services and law enforcement will attend the training to learn about search theory and its application to wilderness land and air searches for missing persons and aircraft. Trainings such as these prepare local on-scene SAR incident commanders, operations leaders, and mission coordinators to implement the safest and most effective search and rescue operation following natural disasters and other emergency situations. As Hurricane Ian has tragically illustrated, effective search and rescue training and operations can save lives following a natural disaster.
Â
Leon County Emergency Management will be available on Wednesday, October 19 from 12-1 p.m. for media interviews. For more information, contact Mathieu Cavell, Leon County Community and Media Relations, at (850) 606-5300 / CavellM@LeonCountyFL.gov.
