Leon County will host the 24th Annual Fire Truck Roundup on Saturday, October 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tom Brown Park by the dog park near Lake Leon. Dedicated to Leon County’s volunteer firefighters, this event recognizes their service by inviting the community to experience interactive touch-a-truck displays and meet with the firefighters themselves.
This family-friendly appreciation event will include free food, music, and activities for kids including face painting, bounce house, giveaways and more. Citizens are encouraged to arrive by 11 a.m., when the Jack Harron Volunteer Firefighter of the Year Award will be presented for “service above self.”
The Earl Bacon Insurance Agency has sponsored this event for the past 24 years and will make a donation to each Volunteer Firefighter department in honor of Jack Harron, former Miccosukee Fire Chief who lost a battle with cancer. Chief Harron served 17 years as fire chief and was instrumental in the creation of the annual Volunteer Firefighter Fire Truck Roundup. Throughout his time as a firefighter, Harron exemplified putting service to the community above service to self.
Information on how to become a volunteer firefighter will be available, along with the opportunity to speak one-on-one with a volunteer firefighter about the many rewards of joining the team.
