Leon County Honors Hispanic Culture Through Library Programs and Resources
Leon County Government recognizes the achievements and contributions of Hispanic Americans during Hispanic Heritage Month with art, cultural programs, an author talk and digital resources from the LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library System. Thematic book lists, movie watchlists and online resources offer citizens of all ages opportunities to explore Hispanic culture, history and heritage. Hispanic Heritage Month is recognized each year from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.
In addition to these in-person and digital resources, citizens are encouraged to experience the County’s upcoming Hispanic Heritage Month programs:
“Cultura Tallahassee: Together, We Are More” Exhibition, Sept. 15-Oct. 15, Leon County Main Library – Explore original artwork by local artists celebrating Hispanic culture, heritage and history and the diverse perspectives that strengthen our community.
“Cultura Tallahassee: Together, We Are More” Exhibition Opening, Saturday, Sept. 19, from 1 to 2 p.m., Leon County Main Library – Meet participating artists, explore original artwork by local creators and enjoy light refreshments at the opening of this community art exhibition.
Cuba: A Journey Through History and Culture, Monday, Sept. 21, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Leon County Main Library – Join Florida State University Professor Dr. Anasa Hicks to explore Cuba’s history, people and traditions, including the music, dance, art, food and cultural influences that have shaped its unique identity.
Virtual Author Talk: Paletero Man with Lucky Diaz, Thursday, Sept. 24, from 7 to 7:30 p.m., virtual – Join Latin GRAMMY-winning musician and author Lucky Diaz for an energetic conversation about his bilingual picture book, Paletero Man, and its joyful celebration of community. A Spanish-language virtual Author Talk will follow from 8 to 8:30 p.m.
