Leon County to Honor Local Veterans During 9/11 Day of Remembrance and Service

Leon County Government invites media partners to the Leon County 9/11 Day of Remembrance and Service, an annual community service day, on Thursday, Sept. 10, at Second Harvest of the Big Bend. Media are encouraged to arrive by 11:30 a.m. to capture formal remarks and recognition from Leon County leaders and officials.
County leaders and staff will participate in a hands-on service project to prepare 250 boxes and bags of food and essential resources for local veterans. This event honors the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, and the courage and service of those who responded in the aftermath of the attacks. The project also recognizes the United States Semiquincentennial, marking the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding.
Following the service project and official remarks, the prepared boxes and bags will be delivered by Leon County to local veteran service organizations, including Tallahassee Vets Center, Home Front, and American Legion Sauls-Bridges Post 13.
Now in its 15th year, the Leon County 9/11 Day of Remembrance and Service continues to honor the victims and survivors of 9/11 and those who responded in service following the attacks.
Over the years, Leon County volunteers have participated in a variety of service projects, including neighborhood cleanups, home repairs, and care packages for Leon County residents serving overseas in the military.
