Library patrons can also browse and check out materials related to gardening and cooking. At the kickoff event residents will also have the opportunity to meet with UF/IFAS Leon County Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Volunteers and learn how to start a fall garden as well as best practices for seeding fall veggies, raised bed gardening, healthy cooking and more.
The seed varieties for fall 2019 are Cylindra Beets, Romanesco Broccoli, Cosmic Purple Carrots, Tall Utah Celery, Tatsoi Green Chinese Cabbage, Georgia Southern Collards, Red Sails Lettuce, Red Creole Onion, Giant of Italy Parsley, and Red Malabar Spinach. Each packet contains ten seeds.
The Seed Library Program began in 2015 as a way to promote heirloom vegetable seed planting in Leon County and to encourage residents to grow their own nutritious food.
