Leon County Government and the City of Tallahassee invite the entire community to celebrate family and togetherness at the much-anticipated 2023 Family Day Celebration on Friday, November 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Railroad Square Art District.

Family Day at Railroad Square will be a vibrant and engaging event, offering a diverse range of attractions and activities to ensure a memorable day for attendees of all ages. Mark your calendars for a day of family fun, entertainment, and togetherness, featuring free family portraits, live entertainment, and delectable food trucks.

This year's Family Day is dedicated to Aimee Sachs, a gifted journalist and Tallahassee resident who passed away on May 31, 2023, after suffering a pair of strokes. Completely paralyzed and unable to speak, Aimee could only communicate by blinking her eyes. She made the brave and conscious decision to end her life and to donate her life-saving organs, which ultimately gave life to three people.

A donation will be made in honor of Aimee Sachs to the non-profit sister organization of LifeQuest, the group that facilitated the transplant of Aimee’s organs. Donate Life will have a table at the event, with informational items to give away and educational resources for members of the community to make their own decision about being an organ donor.

In 2021, the Leon County Commission and the City of Tallahassee Commission jointly declared the day after Thanksgiving as Family Day, a testament to the community's commitment to celebrating the importance of families, unity, support, and love. As the first community in Florida to make this proclamation, Tallahassee-Leon County invites residents and visitors alike to commemorate this special occasion by spending quality time with loved ones at the Family Day at Railroad Square event, shopping locally at Tallahassee-Leon County businesses, and enjoying other arts, culture and outdoor amenities communitywide.

Family Day at Railroad Square is a community-driven event made possible through the collective efforts of Leon County Government, the City of Tallahassee, Sachs Media, the Council on Culture & Arts (COCA), the Soul of Southside Festival TLH, and the Children’s Services Council of Leon County.
