Leon County Government invites the community to the 26th Annual Volunteer Fire Truck Round-Up on Saturday, October 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tom Brown Park by the dog park near Lake Leon. This free event highlights the service and dedication of Leon County’s volunteer firefighters by inviting the community to visit the County's six volunteer fire rescue departments, see and tour fire trucks and apparatus, and take photos with trucks and firefighters.
This family-friendly appreciation event will include free food, music, and activities for kids, including bounce houses, face painting, giveaways, and more. At the event, the Jack Harron Volunteer Firefighter of the Year Award will be presented at 11 a.m. to a volunteer firefighter who displays outstanding character and puts “service above self.”
As a sponsor of the event for the past 26 years, the Earl Bacon Insurance Agency will donate to each Volunteer Firefighter Department in honor of Jack Harron, former Miccosukee Fire Chief who lost a battle with cancer. Chief Harron served 17 years as fire chief and was instrumental in the creation of the annual Volunteer Firefighter Fire Truck Round-Up. Throughout his time as a firefighter, Harron exemplified putting service to the community above service to self.
Information on how to become a volunteer firefighter will be available at the event, along with the opportunity to speak one-on-one with a volunteer firefighter about the many rewards of joining the team.
