The $3 million investment will enhance the County’s capacity to host even larger sporting events, leading to even greater economic impact. Additional features to the park will include new hiking and biking trails as well as a new access road, sidewalks, a multi-use stage, restroom facilities, wildlife viewing areas and a permanent finish line structure for the cross-country course.
Interview opportunities will be available with Leon County officials and representatives from Florida State University and Gulf Winds Track Club.
Serving as the premier cross-country running facility in the nation, Apalachee Regional Park opened in 2009 and has hosted more than 50 regional, state and national cross-country championships, bringing tens of thousands of athletes and millions in economic impact to Leon County. Construction will be completed in late 2020. During construction, a section of the park, including the cross-country course, will be temporarily closed to the public.
