Leon County and Partners Celebrate Opening of Ridge Road Flats Affordable Housing Community
Yesterday, Leon County Government and community partners marked a significant step forward in addressing local affordable housing needs with a ribbon cutting celebrating the opening of Ridge Road Flats, a new 250-unit affordable housing apartment community, located at 795 Ridge Road.
“The opening of Ridge Road Flats marks another significant milestone in Leon County's continued commitment to expanding affordable housing options available to residents,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Brian Welch. “By supporting developments like this, we are directly investing in the stability and future of our residents, ensuring that more individuals and families have access to the safe, high-quality affordable homes they deserve.”
Designed to serve households earning no more than 70% of the area median income, the Ridge Road Flats development is rent restricted to ensure long-term affordability. Apartments feature granite countertops, balconies and patios, in-unit washers and dryers, on-site maintenance and management, fitness center, swimming pool, community garden, and an array of resident programming, including regular pop-up events hosted by healthcare providers and financial counseling workshops. Additionally, Ridge Road Flats prioritizes accessibility, offering units for residents with mobility impairments and accommodations for individuals with audio-visual needs.
“Thanks to strong partnerships and the dedication of County Housing staff, the opening of Ridge Road Flats demonstrates our shared commitment to delivering high-quality, affordable homes for our citizens,” said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. “Leon County will continue to create and expand affordable housing opportunities throughout the community right now and for years to come."
In 2022, the Leon County Board of County Commissioners authorized the Housing Finance Authority of Leon County to issue $55 million in Multifamily Housing Revenue Bonds for the development of Ridge Road Flats. Over the last five years, the County has invested $5.8 million in direct funding and authorized approximately $183 million in bond financing, which will add more than 1,200 new affordable rental units to the local inventory.
Earlier this month, the Leon County Board of County Commissioners adopted a Resolution authorizing the Housing Finance Authority of Leon County to seek up to $50 million in single family mortgage revenue bonds from the State of Florida to finance the development of additional affordable rental development projects in Leon County. If secured, the bonds would finance eligible multifamily housing projects in 2026 for very low-income households, helping to address the greatest affordable housing needs in the community.
