Leon County and Capital City Chamber of Commerce Team Up to Advance Wealth Equity
Leon County Government is partnering with the Capital City Chamber of Commerce on a public information campaign to advance wealth equity in the community by enhancing access to existing housing, social wellness, and financial empowerment resources and programs. As part of the County’s ongoing efforts to address poverty and inequity in the community, the campaign will focus on raising awareness of available resources, reducing barriers to access, and promoting community engagement.
“Leon County is proud to partner with the Capital City Chamber of Commerce on this initiative that directly connects families with the essential resources and support they need—from affordable housing to social wellness and financial literacy,” said Leon County Commission Chairman Brian Welch. “By eliminating barriers to access and empowering residents with tools for success, we can foster lasting financial stability, healthier households, and a brighter future for everyone in our community.”
Informed by community feedback, data analysis, and collaboration with local stakeholders, the campaign seeks to address the wealth and assets gap, facilitate intergenerational wealth transfer, and build resident, family, and community financial stability.
“Building on the County’s commitment to economic vitality, this initiative addresses wealth equity head-on through a data-driven approach informed by robust citizen and partner engagement,” said Leon County Administrator Vincent S. Long. “With thorough analysis, we can connect people to resources and expand economic opportunity for all our citizens.”
The campaign will feature targeted outreach to underserved populations and foster collaborative partnerships with community organizations to create long-term, sustainable solutions. Leon County has also launched a website highlighting local resources and programs that promote greater opportunities for all residents at LeonCountyFL.gov/FEB.
"We’re excited to continue our partnership with the Capital City Chamber of Commerce on this important initiative to advance wealth equity in our community,” said Abigail Thomas, Director of the Office of Human Services and Community Partnerships. “Through community outreach, we’re working together to connect residents with vital resources and create pathways to greater financial stability and opportunity for all.”
The campaign was developed as part of a $75,000 Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund (CFE Fund) CityStart grant awarded to the County in 2023. The CityStart initiative helps local leaders develop and implement proven strategies to help local families and communities become more financially stable.
“Leon County has used the CityStart platform to deeply engage with partners across the community, including residents, and find opportunities to build financial stability and advance wealth equity,” said Jonathan Mintz, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund. “We’re thrilled to see how the County and its partners use this blueprint to enhance access to housing, social wellness supports, and financial empowerment efforts.”
“We are extraordinarily excited to further explore impacting the financial literacy levels of our community from a citizen and business prospective in partnership with Leon County Government,” said Capital City Chamber of Commerce President Katrina Tuggerson. “Times are volatile now and shifts are occurring at multiple levels of society overall. We, therefore, deem it a critically exceptional moment to work with Leon County. The footprint for success is established through previous joint efforts with the County. We are proud and confident to discharge work that we know so well.”
