Leon County Government, the City of Tallahassee and the student-led community group TLH 200 Trees are hosting the annual Arbor Day Tree Planting in celebration of Florida Arbor Day on Saturday, January 22, 2022. Interested volunteers can sign-up at VolunteerLeon.org/ArborDay, and spots will be secured on a first-come first-served basis.
TLH 200 Trees is a group led by dedicated middle school student volunteers that plan to honor Tallahassee-Leon County’s bicentennial in 2024 through the planting of 200 Japanese Magnolia trees. For more information about this community group, visit www.TLH200Trees.com.
Hosting the annual Arbor Day planting event is one of many ways Leon County has achieved its goal of planting at least 15,000 trees between 2017 and the end of this year. Another initiative, Adopt-A-Tree has led to the planting of thousands of native trees in our community by providing free trees to citizens. You can request more information about this program at LeonCountyFL.gov/AdoptATree.
The City is proud to have been named a Tree City USA for nearly three decades. Its Adopt A Tree program plants around 300 trees each year for free for local homeowners. Applications are currently open, and residents can get more details at Talgov.com/AdoptATree.
For more information about the Arbor Day tree planting event, contact Mathieu Cavell, Leon County Community and Media Relations, at (850) 606-5300.
