Leon County Government, the City of Tallahassee and the Tallahassee Lenders’ Consortium invite media partners to attend a housewarming ceremony welcoming several first-time homebuyers to their new Community Land Trust (CLT) homes on Monday, October 27, at 2 p.m. at 1133 Birmingham Street. The ceremony will celebrate the completion of four new 1,126-square-foot townhomes in the Griffin Heights neighborhood, built on land donated by the County and financed with $168,000 from the County’s State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) allocation and $280,000 from the City’s HOME Investment Partnerships Program allocation. The new homeowners will participate in a ceremonial ribbon cutting and receive housewarming gifts.
The CLT was established by Leon County Government and the City of Tallahassee to increase affordable housing opportunities in the local community. In March 2020, Leon County Government and the City of Tallahassee entered into an agreement with the Tallahassee Lenders’ Consortium to serve as the local Community Land Trust. The CLT promotes homeownership by acquiring and/or developing affordable single-family and multi-family housing with long-term affordability restrictions for income-eligible residents. Nine homes have been developed as part of the CLT program, with 18 currently in progress.
Following the ceremony, media will have the opportunity to speak with the new homeowners and officials, as well as tour one of the homes.
